This event is part of the international campaign "people's movements on climatic Changes ", supported by the NGO "IBON International" to mobilize international community around the "People's Protocol on Climate Change" which will be presented in Copenhagen on December 9 2009.

This campaign is part of the initiatives taken by many international NGOs and social movements active in environment, human rights and development fields in order to challenge the international community about the seriousness of the situation, and to put pressure on politicians, particularly in industrialized countries to assume their responsibilities facing climate threat that particularly affects developing countries and populations marginalized.

At the Copenhagen Summit, the UN hopes to get 192 countries to sign a new international treaty to succeed the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012. It is recalled that in 1997 the Kyoto Protocol requires industrialized countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% in 2012 compared to 1990. To date, the United States of America, responsible for 20% of the greenhouse gas emissions produced in the atmosphere have not yet ratified the Kyoto Protocol. Moreover, the experts' forecasts are pessimistic about the outcome of the negotiations to be held in Copenhagen, and predict, in the best case, that a political agreement will be formulated to postpone the adoption of a new treaty next year.

In recent years, Morocco has experienced devastating floods and droughts that have led to accelerate desertification, which affected the emergence of the "climate refugees" phenomenon. Climatic disturbances also cause the gradual Climate desiccation affecting agriculture. The sea level may eventually change the Moroccan coastal landscape and the forest area is already affected. In this term, we find that anthropogenic attacks have dangerously pushed back the Moroccan forest area over the last 50 years.

During this meeting, whose work will be displayed in Copenhagen, Moroccan NGOs are required to adopt the "People's Protocol on Climate Change." For this, we hope to mobilize the social movements of the South, particularly Morocco, Maghreb and Mashreq, to participate in the process of developing proposals alternative civil society for a general framework on climate change.
